Security forces recover huge cache of ammunition in Manipur

Security forces in Manipur recovered a large amount of ammunition during a search operation in the hill and valley districts of the state.

The recovered ammunitions included one 81 mm Improvised Mortar, one Single Barrel Rifle, one 36 HE Hand Grenade, two Hand Grenade No. 90 MK-3, 01 one 38 mm Anti-Riot Rubber Bullet among others.

The recovery was announced by Manipur Police in their official X website. Taking to X, Manipur Police wrote, “Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the operation the following items were recovered: i.01 (one) 81 mm Improvised Mortar, 01 (one) Single Barrel Rifle, 01 (one) 36 HE Hand Grenade, 02 (two) Hand Grenade No. 90 MK-3, 01 (one) 38 mm Anti-Riot Rubber Bullet, 02 (two) Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose, 01 (one) 2 Inch Mortar Shell with case, 02 (two) 40 mm Lathode Bomb, 02 (two 7.62 mm ammunitions, 05 (five) 5.56 mm Blank Cartridge, 01 (one) SLR magazine and 01 (one) Improvised Exploded Shell from Thoubal District.”

It may be mentioned that recovery of arms during raids by security forces has been a common occurrence in Manipur for the past few months. In November 2023, Manipur Police recovered one SMG carbine, 36 hand grenades, one tube launching, 16 INSAS LMG magazines, four INSAS rifle gas cylinder capes, seven 7.62 SLR ammunition charger clips, 63 9mm revolver ammunition, and six anti-riot shells during search operations in Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai and surrounding areas.

In October 2023, Manipur Police recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from Imphal East district. It included one .303 rifle with an empty magazine, one SMG carbine with an empty magazine, one AK MA-3 MK II with 1 empty magazine, one 9 mm pistol with an empty magazine, 20 pieces of 36 HE grenades without detonators, one empty AK 47 magazine, two empty INSAS magazine, one empty INSAS LMG magazine and one empty M16 magazine.
