NDA partner Kuki People’s Alliance withdraws support from N Biren Singh Govt in Manipur

In a first amid the ongoing turmoil, the BJP-led, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, Kuki People’s Alliance, has withdrawn support from the N Biren Singh government in Manipur.
KPA’s move comes amid the ongoing ethnic violence in the troubled state for the last three months.
In a statement, KPA president Tongmang Haokip wrote to the state Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, saying, “After careful consideration of the current conflagration, the continued support for the incumbent government of Manipur led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh is no longer fructuous.”
“Accordingly, the support of the KPA to the Government of Manipur is hereby withdrawn, and can be considered null and void, “the statement added.

The KPA has two MLAs, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing from Saikul Assembly Constituency and Chinlunthang from Singngat Assembly Constituency.
BJP holds the largest number of seats with 32 members in the Manipur assembly. The party enjoys the support of five NPF MLAs and three independent legislators.
The opposition legislators include seven from the NPP, five from the Congress, and six from the JD (U).
