Mentally Challenged Minor Girl Allegedly Raped And Murdered In Churachandpur, 4th Case In 2 Months

As if the scars and injuries from the violence was not enough. Manipur’s Churachandpur is reporting frequent cases of rape and murder of minor girls. At least 4 incidents of rape and murder of minor girls have been reported from this hill district of the violence battered state in just 2 months (March – April) of this year.

In the latest case, a mentally challenged minor girl was allegedly raped and killed In Churachandpur.

According to reports, the victim had gone to collect firewood near Leijangphai in Thanlon Sub Division on Friday. After that she did not return home. This raised and alarm and her father went out looking for her. He along with few others from the area launched a massive search and to their utter shock and horror, found the girl’s body, who was barely in her teens. She was lying near the firewood she had collected to carry back home. Extremely tragic, to say the least.

Earlier, on April 4, a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an underaged boy in Churachandpur district.

Last month, a 9-year-old girl was found dead in the vicinity of a relief camp for internally displaced people in Churachandpur district. The girl’s body was found with an injury mark on her neck and bloodstains around the body. Her parents and civil society organisations including Zomi Mothers’ Association had alleged the girl was murdered after she was sexually assaulted.

The district is witnessing an alarming rise in sexual crimes against girls, however authorities have failed enough to safeguard girls.

In the third case, the family requested privacy.
