Manipur viral video: Manipur CM leads state-wide protest in Imphal to condemn incident

Amid the widespread outrage and protests over the Manipur viral video where two women were stripped and paraded naked in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on May 4, which has now caught global attention, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh led a state-wide protest in capital Imphal on Friday to condemn the incident.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who attended the protest meeting, reiterated that Manipuri society has the utmost respect for women and is against such horrific crimes.
“Across the state, condemnation meetings are organized to protest against the Manipur viral video where women were disrespected,” CM N Biren Singh added.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the strongest action will be taken and “exemplary punishment” will be meted out to those involved in the crime.
“We will try to give exemplary punishment. People are protesting across the state regarding the incident in every constituency and demanding the strictest punishment for the accused. Accused number one, who was arrested earlier, his house was burnt by Meira Paibi (mother in Manipur) yesterday. This protest is to support the government to punish the accused.,” CM N Biren Singh added.
Four people have been arrested since July 19, when the video went viral.
Even after two days, condemnation messages are pouring in against the violence against two women.
The video has also created an outrage among the Opposition leaders and rocked the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, where the political leaders condemned the incident.
Bollywood celebrities Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra Sonu Sood, Richa Chada, Kiara Advani, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Renuka Shahane, Urmila Matondkar and the likes of Kamal Hasan, Pa Rajnith and American singer Mary Millben have condemned the incident and demanded harshest punishment for the culprits.
