An unverified photograph showing the 6 individuals allegedly held captive by militants is doing the rounds on social media. However, police have yet to confirm the authenticity of these images.

Meanwhile, a 5-member team of Manipur Congress led by former Chief Minister Ibobi Singh and State Congress President K Meghachandra called on Governor LP Acharya in Guwahati on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum appealing for the safe release of 6 individuals.

The Congress party also stated that the current Government under Chief Minister Biren Singh has failed to protect the life and property of the people in the state.

Earlier, CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh demanded that both the Centre as well as the state government must play a more proactive role in resolving the conflict that has been prevailing for more than a year.

While appealing for peace, O Ibobi Singh said talks are the only solution for resolving the conflict and that violence can only aggravate the situation further.

After a lull of few months, Manipur is on the boil again after incidents of arson and firing in Jiribam district on November 7 followed by firing in Phayeng, Kangchup, Koutruk in Imphal West and Sekmai till Wednesday morning.
So far 4 civilians have died and 10 armed men have been killed in incidents of violence in Jiribam district since November 7.
