Manipur to have women’s police battalion soon: CM Singh

CM N Biren Singh has also announced a hike of Rs 500 in the ration money for all the 42,000 Manipur Police personnel
Manipur known for its women unity, strength and valour will soon have a women’s police battalion. This was announced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh today as the Manipur Police celebrated it’s 132nd Raising Day today.
Congratulating the 42,000 brave personnel of the Manipur Police and their families, as a token of recognition and acknowledgement, the Manipur Chief Minister also informed that there will be a hike of Rs 500 in the ration money allotted to the Manipur Police personnel for their role in maintaining law and order situation after trouble erupted since May 3.
N Biren Singh said, “Today is a great day. During these troubled times we are celebrating the 132nd Raising Day of state police. I convey my best wishes to all the police personnel and their families and also to all the people of the state.
The role of police is very big. They were the backbone who brought peaceful co-existence in the state of Manipur, they have been maintaining the law and order situation, more than 8 police personnel have sacrificed their lives in the recent conflict. Now the police is working day and night. So the state government as a reward as an acknowledgement has announced Rs 500 increment increase in the ration money to all the 42,000 Manipur Police personnel, annually it will cost Rs 24 crore.
Again one women’s police battalion will be established very soon so that we can employ the women and the sports persons in Manipur.”
The Manipur Chief Minister also batted for unity among the Manipur Police personnel who represent different communities in the state. According to N Biren Singh this would help a great deal during critical times.
He said, “That is very important. Manipur may be small but we are having 35 recognised tribes. In such situation somebody has joined the state police than they should first become an Indian, then Manipuri national. We should live with our ethnic belongingness, then only unity and oneness can be brought in the state of Manipur. It will be easier to deal in such a critical situation.”
