Manipur State Women’s Commission Sets Up 3-Member Fact-Finding Team to Probe Killings of 3 Children and 3 Women in Jiribam, Meets Bereaved Families

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has set up a three-member fact-finding team to investigate the gruesome killing of three children and three women in Jiribam.
The committee formed to probe the horrific murder, visited the district on November 28, 2024, to assess the situation and gather crucial information surrounding the abductions and murders.
During their visit, the 3-member committee held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jiribam, Krishna Kumar and officials of key departments, including the police, social welfare, and medical teams on November 29 to address daily issues and plan long-term support for those affected.
The committee also discussed the challenges in managing relief camps and improving living conditions for the displaced.
Additionally, the MSCW team met the Special Superintendent of Police and Nodal Officers of the relief camps to discuss administrative measures to enhance the camps’ infrastructure.
They also inspected the One Stop Center in Jiribam and engaged with employees to understand their efforts in providing support to the victims’ families.
Later, the committee met with the grieving families to hear their concerns and assured them of continued efforts to seek justice for the victims.
It may be mentioned here that 6 individuals – 3 children, one as young as just 10 months old, and 3 women, one a 60-year-old, all from the same family were abducted on November 11 from Jiribam and four days later on November 15 late night, their bodies found – 3 bodies were found floating in the Barak river and three bodies were found stuffed in gunny bags.
Among the victims, two-year-old Laishram Chingkhei Nganba Singh suffered a gunshot wound to the face, had his right eye missing, and showed signs of blunt force trauma. His mother, 25-year-old Laishram Heitombi Devi, was shot four times, with bullets fatally damaging her heart and lungs. Sixty-eight-year-old Yurembam Rani Devi sustained five bullet wounds to her skull, chest, abdomen, and arm.
