Manipur: Schools reopen for classes 1-8 after almost 2 months

Even as sporadic incidents of violence continue to be reported from different parts of the state, schools in Manipur reopened today after being shut for almost 2 months.

The move comes after Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Monday to reopen schools from classes 1-8.

However, very few schools have reopened on Wednesday, as many are still involved in providing relief measures.

The schools in Manipur have been shut since May first week after violent clashes broke out between two communities.

On the first day, attendance in most institutes was extremely low; however, students, parents, and guardians welcomed the state government’s decision to resume classes.

The schools in Manipur’s Senapati district saw an impressive number of students in the class.

Lokho, Headmaster of DV School, situated in the heart of Senapati headquarters, stated that regular classes resumed on Wednesday as per instructions given from the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) after a long summer break.

The headmaster mentioned that almost all the schools under the Board of Secondary Education of Manipur in Senapati district have resumed normal classes.

The headmaster added that there are no signs or reports of any violence in Senapati district, adding that Senapati district is one of the most peaceful districts in the state.

As per reports, schools in Ukhrul district and Noney district also resumed regular classes from today.

Adding that he is happy to see the children back in schools, CM N Biren Singh sought cooperation of everyone in the state to maintain peace and let the children attend school without any disturbances.

“As we opened the schools from (Class 1- Class 8) today, I’m happy to see our children back in schools. It’s been a difficult phase for the people of Manipur but we can’t let our children be deprived of their rightful education. Seeking the cooperation of everyone in Manipur to maintain peace and let our children attend school without any disturbances,” he tweeted.
