AMHSDA, expressed unhappiness over the fact that the government is yet to address their demands, for which protests erupted 2 years back.

Government doctors in Manipur have renewed their agitation over the non-fulfilment of demands by the state government. Doctors under the banner of All Manipur Health Services Doctors Association (AMHSDA) joined a Relay Hunger Strike beginning from today.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Dr Lolee P Mao, general secretary AMHSDA, expressed unhappiness over the fact that the government is yet to address their demands, for which protests erupted 2 years back. Mao said, that the decision to go on relay hunger strike was taken at the Emergency General Body meeting of the AMHSDA held on November 22. A resolution was adopted in the meeting which stated that the doctors cannot wait any longer for the government to act but to intensify the activities further.

Mao added that since the government had informed the AMHSDA of it’s inability to fulfil all the 8 demands, the agitating doctors had curtailed the charter of demands to 4. Mao said the main demands are-
Time bound promotion

Extension of superannuation age to 65 years (Both for Specialists & Non-Specialists)

NPA should be made effective from January 1, 2016 as per 7th Pay Commission

Amendment of the 1982 Health Service Rule since the AMHDSA considers it to be too outdated

Mao informed that the doctors will be participating in the relay hunger strike in such a manner where 3 districts will be participating in the agitation in a phasewise each day.
