The Eastern Command GOC-in-C’s visit assumes significance since there has been a demand for removal of state forces from certain areas especially in hill districts and replacing it with central forces.
However, on January 21, Manipur CM N Biren Singh had informed that his government has urged the Centre to deploy โneutral central forcesโ in the state.
CM N Biren Singh had said, “We are requesting the central government to replace those central forces who are taking sides with neutral forces so that life and innocent people can be protected.

Manipur towards the end of last year had witnessed a series of attacks on security forces thus creating more challenges for the government to bring peace in the state. On December 31, in a strongly worded message, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had termed the attacks on security personnel in the state as a grave threat to the national security.
CM N Biren Singh also highlighted the fact that the security forces must urgently come up with a more robust approach to deal with such anti-social elements.
