Manipur IGP to Head 2-Member Inquiry Team to Probe Death of Protestor in Jiribam Police Firing on Nov 17

The committee will inquire into the cause of the incident and the circumstances leading to it.

The Government of Manipur has set up a two-member inquiry committee to investigate the death of a protester in a police firing incident in Jiribam on November 17, 2024.

The Committee will be headed by IGP Intelligence Kabip K and will have DIG Range 3 Ningshen Worngam as a member and the committee will submit its report in 30 days.

The committee will inquire into the cause of the incident and the circumstances leading to it and ascertain if any foul play was involved in the incident.

The service of Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam as Sr. SP (Combat) will be discontinued, the order issued today said.

A confrontation had occurred between the Special Commando Team, led by Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam, Sr. SP (Combat), and protestors near the Jiribam Police Station on November 17.

The police firing took place as a huge angry mob went on a rampage around Jiribam town. The firing reportedly took place when the irate mob was attacking the party offices of the BJP and Congress in Jiribam.

During the clash, two protestors sustained bullet injuries, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries.
