Manipur CM reaches Delhi following summons from BJP central leadership

First Published: 14th May, 2023 17:30 IST

The summon comes in the backdrop of the massive unrest that the state saw recently that left over 60 people dead, over 200 injured and thousands displaced

Manipur CM N Biren Singh has been summoned to Delhi.  Chief Minister N Biren left for Delhi on a special flight along with cabinet ministers Th Biswajit, Govindas Konthoujam, Th Basantakumar and Y Khemchand.

As per sources, Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi has also left for Delhi.

The visit comes at a time when Manipur is trying to limp back to normal following the recent unrest.
CM N Biren Singh and the cabinet colleagues will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the visit and are also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is to be seen now, as to what would be the steps taken by the Centre and the BJP high command to restore normalcy in Manipur.

It may be mentioned that Manipur is also witnessing political volatility with CSOs in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi and several Chin-Kuki MLAs demanding separate administration for the Kuki-dominated hill districts.

Apart from this, the displacement of thousands in the state due to the current unrest is delaying Manipur’s return to normal.

Frequent attacks on forces and police are also raising a question as far as the law and order situation is concerned.

Over 70 people have died so far in the violence in Manipur while close to 2000 houses have been damaged. Thousands have also been displaced in the recent unrest and are not been relocated with help from the Army and Assam Rifles.
