The IDPs’ meeting with CM N Biren Singh came within days of a protest rally taken out by the IDPs demanding arrangements be made for them to go back home.

During the rally held at Akampat Relief Camp at Singjamei on August 1,
a senior reporter of a local cable TV channel was allegedly assaulted by police.

Around half a dozen IDPs taking part in the rally also received injuries in the incident.

The police had resorted to blank firing and firing of tear gas shells to prevent the protesters from moving towards the Assembly.
