Manipur battered by heavy rain and hailstorm, trail of destruction in as many as 13 districts

The Manipur Government has launched helpline numbers for 13 districts

A hailstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall swept through Manipur this morning leaving behind a trail of destruction in as many as 13 out of the total 16 districts. Not an usual occurence, the hailstorm, damaged several houses, cars as well crop areas.

Owing to this, several families are feared to be rendered homeless. Trees were also uprooted in many areas by the winds.

Visuals available with Northeast Live showed hails leaving holes on tin roofs. Strong winds also blew away houses in Thoubal district as well as other districts.

No official figures have been notified so far regarding the extent of damage, loss of lives or any other particulars.

Taking strong exception to the damages caused by the hailstorm, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was prompt in reaching out to the people in distress. The CM in a post on X informed that Helpline Numbers have been launched for the 13 affected districts.

Besides, the CM in his post assured that his government stands with the people during this challenging times.

Prior to that in a Facebook post, CM N Biren Singh urged the affected people to reachout to the Deputy Commissioners in their respective district to inform about their loss, so that the government can repair the damaged homes.

“House owners whose houses have been damaged in the heavy hailstorm today can promptly reach out to their Deputy Commissioner and submit their details along with the photos of the damaged homes,” the post read.
