Manipur CM N Biren Singh today expressed grave concern over the creation of new villages by illegal migrants, that too at an alarming level

The Manipur Legislative Assembly today reaffirmed its earlier resolution taken on August 2022 regarding implementation of NRC in the state.

During his speech in the floor of the House, Manipur CM N Biren Singh highlighted the fact that implementation of NRC will be decisive in terms of safeguarding the interests of the state.

Besides, the Manipur Legislative Assembly also resolved to urge the Centre for expediting the process of implementing NRC in the state and sought people’s cooperation on the matter.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a post on X wrote, “Today, the Manipur Legislative Assembly took a significant step by reaffirming our resolution passed on 5th August 2022. It is our firm belief that the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur is crucial for safeguarding the interests of our state and contributing to the greater good of our nation.

The decision to urge the Government of India to expedite the implementation of the NRC reflects our commitment to ensuring the security and integrity of Manipur. I urge all citizens to support this endeavor as we strive to build a stronger, more prosperous Manipur for generations to come.”

Not only this, the Manipur CM highlighted the gravity of the situation and the threats posed by influx.
In another post on X, CM N Biren Singh said, “The sudden mushrooming of new villages at an alarming rate at various locations in the state directly poses an existential threat to the indigenous population of Manipur.

The numbers and data speak for themselves, and I will say this again, if we are going to play politics on this crucial and complex issue, we are going to sink.”

On August 5, 2022, the Manipur Assembly had unanimously adopted two private member resolutions to set up a State Population Commission and implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
