Manipur: After 3 Assam Truck Drivers, Now 2 Liquor Dealers Kidnapped in Churachandpur

The police have registered a suo motu case and have launched a search operation to locate the missing individuals.

Another kidnapping case has surfaced from Manipur’s Churachandpur district, where two liquor dealers were abducted by unidentified assailants.

The victims identified as-Lalboi and Chandan, both dealers of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, were kidnapped on January 31 around 5 PM near Chiengkonpang Cemetery.

The police have registered a suo motu case and have launched a search operation to locate the missing individuals.

In response to the incident, local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have raised concerns over the safety of businessmen in the area and appealed for the safe release of the victims.

In a separate incident on the same day, three truck drivers from Assam were kidnapped for ransom by masked men in Songpi village, Manipur, around 10 PM.

The victims were identified as Suhel Alam Talukdar (26), son of Bilaluddin Talukdar from Dholai, Hailakandi, Assam; Manjurul Alom Barbhuiya (27), son of Hamit Ahamed Barbhuiya from Dholai, Hailakandi, Assam; and Jamir Uddin (37), son of Ekram Ali from Dalgram, Karimganj, Assam.

The truck drivers were transporting cement to Churachandpur when they were abducted.

Fortunately, Churachandpur police successfully rescued the three victims on February 1.

Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, Prakhar Pandey said that a suo motu case had been registered, and an intensive search operation was initiated.

Acting on intelligence, the district police located and rescued the captives from Tuibong, Churachandpur, around 1:50 PM.

Investigations into both incidents are underway.
