Manipur: 4 ‘unhappy’ MLAs attend meet; CM N Biren says ’We all are together’

BJP National spokesperson and Northeast-in-charge flew in to Imphal yesterday to hold a meeting the Manipur BJP MLAs amid 4 MLAs resigning from their official posts

In a new twist to the political scene in Manipur, all the 4 MLAs who had stepped down from their official posts citing responsibility not given and was camping in New Delhi as if sulking, today attended a crucial meeting of all the Manipur BJP MLAs in Imphal.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, BJP national spokesperson and northeast-in-charge Sambit Patra and Manipur BJP President A Sharda Devi were present at the meeting.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, a smiling and seemingly happy Biren Singh said, “Nothing is there. They (the MLAs) went there (Delhi) for treatment, they came back, we are all together now.”

The 4 allegedly upset and disgruntled MLAs are – Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Wenjing Tengtha MLA Paonam Brojen Singh and Uripok MLA KH Raghumani Singh.

It may be mentioned here that resentment brewed within Manipur BJP after Thokchom Radheshyam Singh tendered his resignation as advisor to Manipur’s CM on April 13, citing no responsibility given as the reason for his resignation.

On April 17, Langthabal MLA, Karam Shyam followed suite and resigned from the chairman’s post of Manipur Tourism Corporation Limited.

It was on April 20, when Wengjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen Singh stepped down from his official post of Chairman of the Manipur Development Society on personal grounds.

On April 24, BJP MLA Kh Raghumani Singh stepped down as Chairman of MANIREDA becoming the 4th MLA to resign from his official post in less than a fortnight citing personal reasons.

Reports then surfaced that all the 4 MLAs were camping in Delhi to meet the central leadership, reportedly demanding their intervention for a change of Chief Minister or at least a rejig in the state cabinet.

However, the Manipur Chief Minister on April 21 had rubbished reports of dissension among the BJP MLAs after he held a closed door meeting of the legislators, although 9 of them had abstained from attending the meeting, including the 4 who had resigned from their official posts.

The central leadership, sensing some trouble, sent Patra to soothe any frayed nerve and tame any resentment that could be brewing.
