Manipur: 22 BJP MLAs Hold Crucial Meet in Imphal to Push for Popular Government Formation

MLAs discussed aligning their efforts with what the people want and taking forward the proposal for government formation.

Amid growing public demand for the restoration of a popular government in Manipur, 22 BJP MLAs, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, attended a crucial meeting convened by Manipur BJP President A Sharda Devi at the party office in Imphal today.

The meeting was focused on the current political scenario, the demand for reinstating an elected government and considering public sentiment.

MLAs discussed aligning their efforts with what the people want and taking forward the proposal for government formation.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, BJP state president A Sharda Devi said, “This meeting was held to address the points raised by our national leaders during my recent interactions with them regarding the current situation in Manipur. BJP is united and committed to forming a popular government in the state, but we need public support for that.”

Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh also reiterated the party’s intent.

“There is a clear public demand for a popular government in the state, and we have already submitted a proposal to the central leadership. A conducive environment has been created among BJP MLAs, and we are hopeful that a government may be formed at the earliest,” he said.

Among the 22 MLAs who attended the meeting were–Kh. Ibomcha (Lamlai), Th. Satyabarta ( Yaishkul), K. Robindro ( Mayang Imphal), L. Rameshor (Keirao), Karam Shyam (Langthabal), H. Dingo ( Sekmai), S. Ranjan ( Konthoujam), Khemchand ( Singjamei), Dr. Radhashyam (Hiyanglam), S. Premchandra (Kumbi) 12. Kh. JoyKisan ( Thangmeiband), N. Biren Singh ( Heingang), S. Kunjakeshor ( Patsoi), Kh. Raghumani ( Uripok), Rk. Imo ( Sagolband), Paonam Brojen ( Wangjing), AshaBuddin ( Jiribam ), T. Robindro ( Thanga), Th. Bishwajit ( Thongju), Govindas Konthoujam ( Bishnupur ) and S. Rajen ( Lamshang).

Eight MLAs who could not attend the meeting due to being on leave or out of station are- L. Susindro ( Khurai), Th. Basanta ( Nambol), Th. Radheshyam ( Heirok), Th. Arun ( Wangkhei), S. Kebi ( Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), SS. Olish ( Chandel ), Dipu Gangmei ( Nungba) and U. Deben ( Wabagai).

Earlier yesterday, BJP MLAs engaged in a meeting attended by former Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

Considering the ground situation and the growing public demand, BJP and NDA legislators are actively engaging to facilitate the formation of a Popular Government in the state, Biren Singh said after the meeting.

He added that the proposal to restore the state government has already been submitted to the relevant authorities.

The state has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025, amid ongoing ethnic unrest and law and order concerns.
