If You Are Waiting for New Delhi to Fix Your Problem, You Are Living in Fool’s Paradise: Pradyut Debbarma on Manipur Situation
First Published: 20th November, 2024 18:02 IST
"Sitting in Manipur, if you expect people from New Delhi, Bombay or Bengaluru to come and save you, you are living in a fool's paradise," said Pradyot Debbarma.
In a strong message to the people of Manipur, Tipra Motha founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Debbarma urged them to resolve their ongoing crisis internally rather than relying on external forces for help.
Debbarma emphasized that the state’s challenges cannot be solved by people from Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, stressing that Manipur must first save itself.
Taking to social media, Debbarma shared a video message where he said, “Some people say where is BJP, Congress? Believe me nobody from Delhi will come to save you. You have to first save yourself. Sitting in Manipur, if you expect people from New Delhi, Bombay or Bengaluru to come and save you, you are living in a fool’s paradise.
Debbarma urged the leadership in both the ruling and opposition parties in Manipur to step up and lead with vision.
“On 23 November, when the results of the Assembly bypoll in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be out, the Country’s focus will be shifted to there and people will forget about us. So If we think our problems are going to be solved by people from outside then we are wrong. It has to be solved within. That is why I appeal to leaders who are in the opposition and in the ruling government within Manipur, where is your leadership skills gone? Where is your vision? Sit down. Violence will not solve any problem. It will only leave your children’s future behind,” said Pradyot Debbarma.
Debbarma also called for an end to community and religious conflicts, asking all parties to put aside politics and embrace statesmanship for the sake of peace.
“Our next generation is suffering. People whose houses were burnt are suffering. If you really want this pain to go away let’s set aside politics and bring in statesmanship. So I appeal to everyone, let us not fight in the name of community and religion.”
Pradyot Debbarma also said that it is disheartening to see communities fight among themselves while he is fighting for the rights of the Manipuri community in Tripura.
Debbarma said that he is struggling to increase the representation of Manipuris in Tripura’s council and it is painful to watch violence in Manipur itself.
“When people like us try to support, we are bulldozed with questions of why we are defending the Meitei or the Kuki. I have no vested interest. All I want is peace,” Debbarma concluded, adding that he was fighting for peace both in his home state of Tripura and in Manipur,” he added.
