Four MPs from Kerala on 2-day visit to Manipur to assess situation in state

Amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, four MPs from Kerala representing the Indian Union Muslim League are on a two-day visit to the troubled state starting from today.

The MPs are in Manipur to take stock of the situation and to have a ground study of the development taking place in the state.

Mohammad Basheer, MP of the Indian Union Muslim League, said that as the monsoon session of Parliament is coming up, they have come to Manipur to put up the issue in Parliament.

“We want to understand what exactly is taking place here, because parliamentary session is going to start, so that we can understand what is the real development taking place here. We got many news, so we thought it’s better to understand the ground reality,” said MP Mohammad Basheer.

Basheer also said that they will be visiting the Governor of Manipur to discuss the ongoing violence in Manipur.

On being asked about them visiting relief camps in Manipur, the MP said “We are planning accordingly”.

Earlier, a 5-member team of Left MPs of CPI and CPM visited Manipur and met the violence hit people in relief camps and held a peace convention.

During the peace convention, the left MPs were briefed about the Manipur situation so that they could recommend through Parliament to the Government of India to take necessary action to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
