COCOMI had initially presented a three-point demand to the state government, and set a 24-hour deadline for it to respond to their demands.

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has temporarily suspended its protest at the iconic Ima market for seven days. This decision comes after the ruling MLAs of Manipur set a deadline for the Centre to address an eight-point resolution they recently adopted.

COCOMI had initially presented a three-point demand to the state government, and set a 24-hour deadline for it to respond to their demands.

The resolution, adopted during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s secretariat, calls on the Centre to take swift action. Among the key points, it demands a large-scale security operation targeting the Kuki militants responsible for the recent killings of six people in Jiribam.

In addition to the security operation, the ruling MLAs have also called for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the investigation into the deaths of six Meitei women and children in Jiribam. The resolution further demands that Kuki militants involved in the killings be declared an unlawful organization within seven days and urges the Centre to reconsider the reimposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas.
