Cannot keep silent on alarming issue of illegal migration: Manipur CM N Biren Singh

CM N Biren Singh made this comment after the arrest of 3 Myanmar nationals in Moreh and protests against deployment of forces in the border town
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a strong message today affirmed that the government cannot be mute spectator regarding illegal migration which according to him has reached alarming level.
The Manipur Chief Minister’s statement comes in the backdrop of 3 Myanmar nationals being caught by the Manipur Police in and around the border town of Moreh this morning.
Sharing the information, Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted on X that the apprehension of the Myanmar nationals has happened when there are protests against deployment of security forces in Moreh bordering Myanmar.
According to the Chief Minister, organisations are protesting so that they can provide access to Myanmar nationals.
In his post, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “The trio is suspected of stealing furniture items/electric generators from the houses which were burnt down during the recent clashes. They were handed over to the Moreh Police Station for thorough verification. This happened when some particular organizations were objecting and protesting against the deployment of state police and commandos at Moreh town. It is apparent that these organizations do not want the presence of state forces in Moreh so that many of these Myanmarese can be brought into the country. The state government cannot keep silent on such an alarming issue of illegal migration.”
Earlier in September, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had informed that the state government has requested the Centre to permanently wind up the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border, which has been seen as one of the steps taken by the Manipur government to curb “illegal immigration”.
Prior to the outbreak of violence since May 3, Manipur had witnessed a string of protests demanding that the government implement NRC at the earliest to detect and flush out illegal migrants.
On April 24, CM N Biren Singh had chaired a high-level meeting wherein officials of the Manipur Population Commission (MPC) gave a presentation to the Chief Minister on the plans to safeguard the indigenous.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a post on X had said that there were discussions on conducting the statewide household demographic survey. Besides, the Chief Minister also mentioned, “The State Government is also taking up measures to identify illegal immigrants & protect the indigenous population.”
