80 illegal Myanmar immigrants arrested in Manipur

The illegal immigrants who had set up a village inside India, were captured by a team of district and police officials of Tengnoupal
In a significant development along the India-Myanmar border, 80 illegal immigrants including nine minors from Myanmar have been arrested. Very important to note that these illegal refugees had set up a village inside India in Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur. Moreh is situated along the India-Myanmar border.
In a late night crackdown, a team of Tengnoupal district administration and police officials led by Deputy Commissioner Ranjan Yumnam and Superintendent of Police, B Golianmang conducted search operations between Lhangcham Village and T. Motha Village along the Indo-Myanmar border.
During the search, the team which also included commandos, arrested 80 illegal immigrants, Myanmar refugees from a village where they had made a new settlement and settled illegally.
Yesterday Moreh Police conducted full verification of all the 80 Illegal immigrants including the minors. The illegal immigrants have been produced before the Civil Judicial Magistrate, Moreh.
Manipur and Mizoram, the two states bordering Myanmar, Burma and Bangladesh have been constantly facing the illegal immigrant and refugee problem. Mizoram is facing the influx of Kuki Chin refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh while Manipur is facing the problem of refugees coming in not just from Myanmar but from Burma too.
On January 25, 24 Burmese refugees who were kept at the detention centre called Sadbhavna Mandap Khominthang in Maniapur were shifted to the central jail in Imphal after three Burmese refugees fled from a detention camp of Manipur on January 22.
Another 28 refugees who have court order were made to stay back at the centre. Out of the 24, three are under age boys and rest of them are women.
Unable to bear atrocities of the military junta most of these Burmese crossed over to India from Tamu- Moreh sections of Manipur. Some have entered India through Mizoram without valid passport or any other documents.
