Indefinite Total Shutdown in Kuki Zo Areas to Continue Until Demands Met: ITLF

Shutdown in Kuki Zo Areas: Leaders of ITLF have demanded immediate action against those responsible for killing Hoikholhing Haokip.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has said that the indefinite total shutdown called by them on June 20 will continue till the issues arising out of the killing of Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of Langchingmanbi village chief, in Churachndpur on June 19 and the demands put forward by them are not addressed.

Leaders of ITLF have demanded immediate action against those responsible for killing Haokip. An independent investigation into the repeated buffer zone violations, and Concrete steps from the Central Government to ensure the protection of tribal lives and territory

The first day of the total shutdown called by the ITLF on Friday was successful with all shops closed and roads wore a deserted look with vehicles remaining off the road.       

However, no untoward incident was reported during the first day of the total shutdown.

Reacting to the killing of Hoikholhing Haokip, Zomi Council Chairman, Vumsuan Nauluk said that the incident is shocking and was a cold blooded murder.

Nauluk alleged that local disputes have been reported from the buffer zone areas particularly when valley people tries to cross over and the local tribals feel unsafe causing friction.

Hoikholhing Haokip was caught in a crossfire between gunmen and secrurity forces while she was working on the field.
