Former Assam chief secretary Jishnu Barua appointed as CERC chief

Assam’s former Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua was appointed as Chairman Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on February 23.
Barua, a 1988-batch IAS officer retired as Assam’s chief secretary in August 2022. His name was proposed by the Union power ministry.
Jishnu Barua succeeds PK Pujari who superannuated in June 2022. The CERC was without a chief for almost eight months.
The CERC regulates and determines tariffs for inter-state transmission of electricity. The CERC is also responsible for issuing licenses to persons to function as transmission licensees and electricity traders for their inter-state operations.
