"In fact, we have arrested around 35 Muslim infiltrators in the past month while they were trying to enter the country illegally," Chief Minister Sarma added.
Amid reports of Hindus in Bangladesh living in fear because of the unrest in the country, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today that no Hindu have tried to enter India from Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Silchar, Chief Minister Sarma said, “Despite reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, not a single Hindu person has been detected trying to enter India in the last month. The Hindus are staying and fighting in Bangladesh.”
“In fact, we have arrested around 35 Muslim infiltrators in the past month while they were trying to enter the country illegally. During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that they were trying to enter India and travel to Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, and Coimbatore to work in the textile industry. They were not seeking residence in Assam,” the Chief Minister added.
Chief Minister Sarma further said that they have requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak to the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of Hindus in the trouble-hit country.
It may be mentioned here that Bangladesh’s longest-serving Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, resigned on August 5 and was forced to flee the country after protests demanding her ouster intensified.
The former Bangladeshi Prime Minister fled to India as protesters stormed her official residence.
According to reports, several Hindus were attacked in the country. There were also reports of Hindu temples being vandalised.
It is worth mentioning here that Hindus make up around 8 percent of Bangladesh’s 170 million population.
