Manipur’s Haobam Satyabati Devi, Assam’s Sameer Tanti and Sikkim’s Yuva Baral Get Sahitya Akademi Award 2024

In a proud moment for Northeast India, 3 talented writers, Manipur’s Haobam Satyabati Devi, Assam’s Sameer Tanti, and Sikkim’s Yuva Baral have been honoured with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards 2024 for their outstanding contributions to Indian literature.

Sameer Tanti, a celebrated poet from Assam, received the award in the Poetry category for his profound and evocative poem, “Pharingbore Bator Katha Jane”. His work beautifully encapsulates themes of nature and human emotions.

Haobam Satyabati Devi from Manipur also got the award in the Poetry category for her poem “Mainu Bora Nungshi Sheirol”, which explores the delicate interplay of love, culture, and identity.

Sikkim’s Yuva Baral got the award in the Short Stories category for his gripping short story, “Chhichimira”, showcasing his mastery in storytelling and exploring human resilience amidst challenges.

The awards recognize their invaluable contributions to regional literature, highlighting the rich cultural and literary diversity of Northeast India.

The award, in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl, and an amount of Rs. 1,00,000 towards cash content, will be presented to the awardees at the award presentation function, which will be held on 8 March 2025 at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi.
