In a chilling and gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves through Guwahati, a young girl was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight by a man at Nahorni Path, Hatigaon, this morning.
The assailant identified as Bhupen Das, after brutally attacking her, stabbed himself and is in hospital now. Bhupen Das is a resident of Nalbari and cab driver in Guwahati,
The victim has been identified as Mousumi Gogoi, a resident of Dibrugarh. She had come to Guwahati just last month and was working for an NGO in the city.
She was waiting for a Rapido ride when the attack took place.
She was stabbed multiple times in the neck, hand, and abdomen.
Locals rushed her to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to save her life however, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh said that the assailant has been detained and taken to GMCH for treatment.
“Reference stabbing incident of a young girl at Nahorni Path, Guwahati – The assailant has been detained. He has self-stabbed and is being admitted to the hospital,” GP Singh tweeted.
