Extreme Summer Heat Kills One in Assam’s Golaghat

In a tragic incident highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave, a young man died due to extremely hot temperatures in Assam’s Golaghat district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jeevankant Pegu, a resident of Dergaon.

As per inputs, Jeevankant Pegu suddenly lost consciousness and fell near the Dergaon ASTC bus stand while walking under the scorching sun.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The entire Northeast is reeling under intense heat over the past few days.

Maximum temperatures have surged by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal, reaching up to 38°C, and conditions are expected to remain unchanged in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports, the heatwave is being attributed to deficit rainfall, changing wind patterns, and reduced cloud cover, causing severe discomfort for residents across the region.

In response to the heatwave, Kamrup Metro, Dibrugarh and Cachar Districts of Assam, have made changes to the school timings and issued guidelines to keep the students safe from the scorching heat.
