2004 Dhemaji blast: Gauhati HC acquits all 6 accused

In 2019, the Dhemaji District and Sessions court found six people guilty and convicted them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In a major verdict by the Gauhati High Court today, all six accused persons in the 2004 Dhemaji blast have been acquitted.
The accused who have been acquitted are Dipanjali Buragohain, Muhi Handique, Jatin Duwari, Leela Gogoi, Prasanta Bhuyan and Hemen Gogoi.
The development followed after the accused challenged the order of the Dhemaji District and Sessions Court at the Gauhati High Court.
In 2019, the Dhemaji District and Sessions court found six people guilty and convicted them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Four persons were handed out life imprisonment, two others were sentenced to 4-year imprisonment.
The blast that took place at Dhemaji on Independence Day in 2004, left 14 children dead and several others injured. The blast was allegedly triggered by United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) militants.
