At least 63 female students of Beltola college have been targeted, original photographs of at least 9 girls have been made viral by turning them into obscene content.
It seems there is no respite for the common citizens since cyber criminals are targetting them through various means. Days after a fake call centre racket duping common people was busted, this time female college students have fallen prey to cyber criminals that too in Guwahati city.
As per inputs, photographs of at least 63 girl students pursuing their studies at the Beltola College have been morphed by miscreants to turn them into obscene contents. If reports are to be believed, the photographs were sourced from a Whatsapp group of the college students where the victims are also participants.
One of the students informed, “A girl from our college was in a relationship with a boy who is an outsider, he is not from our college. But when the girl decided to part ways with the guy. After that the boy hacked the girls phone and accessed the Whatsapp group. Photographs used as profile pictures have been morphed as obscene content, not only students but also a few teachers. The photographs have been made viral. The links are shared across different platforms.”
Not only this, another student alleged that they were threatened by the miscreants too. If that was not all, some of the students are also facing a harrowing time since they are repeatedly getting calls from unidentified numbers. “They upload the pictures from other sources, call from a different number and send text from different numbers,” he said.
Another student said, “Pictures of at least 9 of our batch mates (girls) have been made viral. Our professors went to the Basistha Police Station to file a complaint. The girl students are in fear, since their pictures are being morphed and mixed with obscene contents.”
Earlier, about 2 weeks ago the Assam Police had made a big breakthrough by busting a fake call center racket operating from the heart of Guwahati who used to dupe people of their hard earned money. 3 masterminds were also arrested.
Although the police managed to deal with such criminals to a considerable extent, yet the situation demands more proactive steps to tackle cyber-crime.
