The Commission termed his recent comments on the marriage age of Hindu women as ““misogynistic, sexist, offensive and unethical”.

The Assam State Commission for Women on Thursday issued a notice to AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal asking the Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri to explain his “misogynistic” and “sexist” remarks against Hindu women.

In a notice to Ajmal, the Commission said that the politician has to give an explanation in three days failing which he would have to appear before the Commission.

The Commission termed his recent comments on the marriage age of Hindu women as ““misogynistic, sexist, offensive and unethical”.

Ajmal has been drawing a lot of flak for his comments regarding the marriage age of Hindu boys and girls and their conduct before marriage. Many also took offence to Ajmal comparing women to fertile land. He had stirred a massive controversy when he asked Hindus to adopt the Muslim marriage formula of marrying early and producing more children.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had lambasted AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal for his offensive remarks and said, “Everybody is under the law. Action can be taken as per law whenever necessary.” The Assam Chief Minister had made this response when he was asked if the AIUDF chief would be arrested for his controversial and sexist remarks.

Using mosquito and mosquito net as an analogy, the Chief Minister had said, “the mosquito is man and the mosquito net is the law. If the mosquito has to be caught, then why so much of discussions and talks”.
Not only this, Ajmal had to face backlash from his party AIUDF too, as a section the party leaders termed that his statements did not go down well as far as women is concerned.

Sensing impending trouble and backlash from different quarters of the society, Badruddin Ajmal tendered apology twice for his insensitive remark. Responding to the FIRs filed against him, Ajmal maintained that law will take it’s own course and he was ready to appear before the court if summoned.
