There will be no differences between the SEBA and CBSE syllabi, announces state education minister Ranoj Pegu
Following the abolition of the ranking system in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations from the 2024-25 academic year, the Assam government has now decided to eliminate the division grading system from the HSLC examinations starting next year.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu informed the media that the state government has been working on removing the division grading system from the HSLC for the past two years.
“We have already abolished the ranking system from HSLC and HS examinations, and this move has been well-received by the public. I have received numerous suggestions and requests to also eliminate the division system from HSLC. People have been supportive of this change,” Pegu said.
He further explained that ranking and division systems are not used in several countries, and there students are simply evaluated as pass or fail.
Additionally, Pegu announced that there will be no differences between the SEBA and CBSE syllabi, as the state board will adopt the same syllabus as the Central Board.
“Moreover, the state board has adopted the CBSE teaching manual for Science and Mathematics. Secondary level teachers of the state have already been trained according to the CBSE teaching manual. If necessary, additional training will be provided, with resource persons available in every district,” Pegu said.
“Besides aligning with the CBSE syllabus and teaching methods, we will also implement a similar evaluation process. Teachers have been trained in setting question papers and evaluating answer scripts as per the CBSE module, ensuring consistency between the boards,” Pegu added.
