Assam Floods: Compensation for affected people by Aug 15, says Assam CM

The CM said that the government will rebuild damaged public infrastructure by March 2025

Amid the miseries that over 16 lakh people of Assam are facing, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Government would compensate the affected people by August 15.

“Before August 15, we will help the people in any way we can for the damaged houses, livestock, wherever we can. I hope to be able to approve funds for reconstruction of educational institutes, Angaanwadi Kendras, roads, embankments etc. that were damaged so that we can restore the entire infrastructure that was damaged before March.”, the CM said during a press meet

To ensure prompt rescue, relief and rehabilitation to the affected people, CM Sarma has given the responsibility of 15 affected districts to nine of his Cabinet ministers.

Dibrugarh and Tinsukia have been assigned to Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. Minister for Revenue & Disaster Management, Jogen Mohan will be taking care of Charaideo, Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora will be taking care of Sibsagar and Jorhat districts.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has been given the responsibility of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur. Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika has been given the three districts of Biswanath, Sonitpur and Darrang.
Golaghat is being taken care of by state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog. The districts of Nagaon and Morigaon will be under the care of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.
Minister for Employment and Tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah has been given the responsibility of Majuli. Power Minister Nandita Garlosa will be taking care of Udalguri.

As per the latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s report of July 3, eight people, including a woman in Sonitpur district and a child in Darrang district, drowned during the past 24 hours while three others were reported missing.

At least 16.25 lakh people have been affected across 29 flood-hit districts with 25,744 people shifted to 181 relief camps, the bulletin said.

29 of 31 districts have been affected along with 2800 villages. The number of deaths has risen to 46 with 181 relief camps set up across the state where 25744 inmates are being provided food and shelter.
