The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has sanctioned Rs 5,729 crore for the Guwahati Ring Road project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity in Assam.
The 121-kilometer project will be developed under the Build-Operate-Toll (BOT) model and encompass three significant components designed to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion.

The project includes the construction of a new 56-kilometer, 4-lane Access-Controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass. Additionally, the existing 4-lane bypass on National Highway 27 (NH 27) will be widened to 6 lanes over an 8-kilometre stretch, and improvements will be made to the remaining 58 kilometres of the existing bypass on NH 27. A major bridge over the Brahmaputra River, a key highlight of the project, will further bolster regional connectivity.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the Cabinet’s approval on his X handle, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support. “Excellent news…As the Union Cabinet approves the Rs 5,729 cr Guwahati Ring Road Project.
