Assam cabinet introduces new examination bill to curb unfair practices

This Bill comes in the backdrop of the question paper leak scandal of the sub-inspector exam of Assam Police

The Assam Cabinet on Monday cleared the Assam Public Examination Measures and Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment Bill, 2024 to put an end to unfair practices in state/level recruitment exams.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said that the Bill is aimed at preventing incidents of paper leaks and other anomalies in state level recruitment examinations.

The minister said, “Through this bill we hope to fix all the problems related to unfair means used in examinations such as question paper leakage among others. This bill has been introduced to clean up the examination process of the state.”

This Bill comes in the backdrop of the question paper leak scandal of the sub-inspector exam of Assam Police. The question paper of the written examination for 597 posts of unarmed sub-inspectors in Assam Police was leaked, and the SLPRB cancelled the test minutes after it had commenced.

Around 66,000 candidates had downloaded their admit cards for appearing in the written tests across 154 centres in all the districts.

 In some other decisions, the Cabinet cleared the proposal to set up

a new state university in Gohpur, Baruah who is the state ublic health engineering, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship and Tourism minister, informed.

The cabinet further gave its nod for the promotion of the eligible candidates presently engaged as assistant professors in various provincialised colleges across the state.
