Rosmita had travelled to Delhi to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination but went missing on June 5.
Nine days have passed since the mysterious disappearance and death of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai, a resident of Dima Hasao in Assam, yet the circumstances that led to her tragic death remain unclear.
Her body was recovered on June 10 from the banks of the Ganga river in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district, 5 days after she was reported missing in New Delhi.
Rosmita had travelled to Delhi to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination but went missing on June 5.
The discovery of her body in Uttarakhand, hundreds of kilometres away both from Delhi where she was last seen, has raised several questions and the absence of conclusive answers has only deepened the mystery.
With the family of the victim outrightly rejecting the accident angle in the case, leaders from Assam, including those from Dima Hasao have stepped in to demand justice for Rosmita Hojai.
Dima Hasao Autonomous council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa lamented that while the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya got non-stop coverage, the national media has ignored Rosmita’s case.
He added that the Assam government as well as the police in both states are working on the case but they are yet to conclude who killed Rosmita and how did she die.
It is after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote to his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami and personally requested him to look into the matter that the Uttarakhand Government announced an inquiry into Rosmita’s case.
CM Dhami assured full cooperation and directed the state’s Director General of Police to conduct a detailed probe.
“We share your concern Hon’ble CM Shri @himantabiswa Ji. We are fully committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and timely investigation,” Dhami posted on X. “I have directed the state’s DGP to conduct a thorough and detailed investigation of the entire incident.”
Two men, Rosmita’s boyfriend Hemant Sharma from Delhi and his friend Pankaj Kok from Rohtak, Haryana were picked up by Uttarakhand Police soon after on June 10 they informed Shivpuri Police in Uttarakhand about 4
Rosmita’s body being found by the riverside. But since then there has been no update from the police.
