Road-Rail Track Damaged in Dima Hasao Day 5: Assam Minister, NFR GM at Landslide Site to Oversee Restoration Work

The crucial route that connects Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur with the rest of India should be operational by Sunday

Assam Cabinet Minister, Nandita Gorlosa and Chetan Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) visited the landslide hit rail track in Jatinga Lampur in Dima Hasao district of Assam to oversee the rail track and road restoration work.

A massive landslide occurred on June 23 totally disrupting train and road movement in the Lumding-Badarpur Sector. The connectivity is expected to be restored by Sunday, June 29.

Talking to Northeast Live, Minister Golosa said, “The restoration work is being hampered by heavy rainfall which is triggering fresh landslides. By Sunday hopefully they will be able to clear the tracks for train movement.”
Restoration work is going on amid the bad weather and heavy rainfalls on the fifth day today. The Jatinga Lampur route is crucial as it connects Barak Valley,Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur with Assam and the rest of India.

Talking to news agency ANI, CPRO of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said, “The Lumding-Badarpur hill section is a critical sector of NFR which connects Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. There is a station in this sector, Jatinga Lampur where on 23 June a massive landslide occurred at around 4 PM. There is a road about 15 meters away from the railway tracks where there was a slope. Slowly mud and stones started falling on the railway tracks and it continued till 24 June. Around 500 cubic meter of debris fell on a stretch of 100 meter railway track. The slope is unstable and rainfall continued. Following the landslide, there was a joint meeting of Assam government officials, NHAI officials, and NFR officials to discuss a detailed plan on how to restore the tracks for train movement. Restoration work started on war footing. There are around 25 to 30 heavy machinery at the site. DRM Lumding is present on the spot. NFR GM, Chetan Kumar Srivastava is also present.”

Over 1000 trucks are stranded and several trains have been cancelled dur to the road and rail route disruption.
