SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express Derailment: One passenger died and eight others were injured including two passengers from Assam in the tragic train derailment near Nergundi Railway Station in Odisha’s Cuttack district today.

Multiple coaches of the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Super Fast Express derailed, leaving one passenger dead and eight others injured.

The two injured persons from Assam have been identified as Willson Digal of Udalguri and Amiran Nisha of Baksa.

They are currently undergoing treatment, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also that his government is closely monitoring the situation. He emphasised that efforts are underway to assist the injured and extend necessary support to affected Assam residents.

“Sharing an update on the incident involving Train 12551. There are no casualties from Assam. 2 persons from the State – Willson Digal of Udalguri and Amiran Nisha of Baksa are injured and undergoing treatment. Both are out of danger,” CM Sarma tweeted.

The train, bearing number 12551, was en route to Kamakhya from Bengaluru when the derailment occurred at 11:54 AM, causing panic among passengers.

At least 11 bogies were affected, forcing travellers to scramble to safety as railway authorities rushed to the scene.

Meanwhile, helpline numbers have been released to get information regarding the train derailment in Odisha.

As per the Railways, the helpline numbers for Guwahati are 0361-2731621, 0361-2731622 and 0361-2731623.

For Kamakhya the helpline number is 9957247953. For Rangiya the numbers are 9854419064 and 9957554979.

For New Bongaigaon, the numbers are 9957554957 and 9957554964. For Cooch Behar, the helpline number is 7605036155.
