The man who played a crucial role in setting up of the game changer Rs 27,000 crores semiconductor plant in Assam,Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has stepped down as chairman and director of Tata Chemicals.
The company in a regulatory filing said that Chandrasekaran in his letter dated May 28, 2025 has informed Tata Chemicals of his intention to step down from the position of Director and Chairman.The Board of Directors of Tata Chemicals at its meeting held on May 28 took on record the request received from N Chandrasekaran to step down, the company said in a statement.
In the letter Chandrasekaran said, “I am writing to formally inform you of my decision to step down from my position as a director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tata Chemicals Limited w.e.f. 29th May, 2025. After careful evaluation of my current and future commitments, I have decided to step down from the Board.”
Following his resignation, the Board of Directors has appointed S Padmanabhan, an existing Board member, as the new Chairman of Tata Chemicals, effective 30 May, 2025.
Chandrasekaran as the Tata Sons Chairman has visited Assam multiple times and has been an integral part of all the Tata Group projects in Assam, starting from the Taj Hotels to the Tata cancer hospitals and the semiconductor plant.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma three days back said that very soon he will have talks with Chandrasekaran on the possibility of setting up a second project in Assam. The Tata Group is currently setting up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly And Testing OSAT facility at Jagiroad near Guwahati. The government of Assam has also earmarked land adjacent to the Tata unit for an upcoming electronics manufacturing city.
