In a disturbing incident, the head teacher of Lohairam MV School, Behali, in Biswanath district of Assam committed suicide today after allegedly facing mental harassment and defamation by a senior education official.

The deceased teacher has been identified as Maya Upadhyay.

A suicide note recovered from the scene has named Brajen Das, the Primary Education Officer (PEO) of Behali, accusing him of exerting relentless pressure and falsely implicating her in a financial scam involving mid-day meal and uniform distribution funds.

In the note, Maya stated that despite an internal investigation clearing her of all charges, she continued to face mental trauma, which ultimately drove her to take the extreme step.

A family member of Maya said, “She was innocent, and that was proven during the internal investigation conducted by the school managing committee.”
