The Kamrup DC also expressed his vision of transforming Hahim into a tourist destination.

In a bold outreach effort, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra trekked 16 kilometers to reach Hahim, a remote village under Boko revenue circle along the Assam- Meghalaya border in Kamrup district on Monday, to assess long-standing issues faced by villagers.

His visit has reignited hope among residents, many of whom have struggled for years with drinking water shortages, eroding markets, poor roads etc.

Accompanied by Kamrup Zilla Parishad CEO Siddhartha Goswami and other officials, DC Mishra visited multiple villages, met with locals, and promised immediate action to resolve their grievances.

Speaking about his visit, DC Deba Kumar Mishra said that they have crossed many villages including Jarapara, Mouman, Haldhipara, Lalmati, Nalapara and many other villages and reached Hahim.

He said that residents of Nalapara village complained about an unfinished water supply project, which has left them without access to drinking water. DC Mishra visited the site and ordered PHED to complete the project immediately.

Another pressing concern raised by residents of Hahim was the severe erosion of the local market area due to the Hahim river, which has already washed away several shops and houses. Responding to the urgency of the situation, DC Mishra assured that immediate administrative measures would be taken to prevent further damage.

The villagers also highlighted an administrative roadblock preventing them from opening bank accounts. Residents reported that despite submitting proper documents, local banks refuse to process accounts, citing that Hahim falls under Meghalaya’s jurisdiction, causing unnecessary hardships in savings, loans, and financial transactions.

Addressing the concern, DC Mishra assured the villagers that the issue would be resolved at the earliest, enabling them to access financial services without bureaucratic hurdles.

Apart from addressing grievances, DC Mishra expressed his vision of transforming Hahim into a tourist destination.

Sharing his experience of the visit, DC Deba Kumar Mishra reflected on his personal connection with Hahim and the challenges faced by its residents.

“I have visited Hahim many times during childhood for picnics, but as a DC, I visited the village for the first time today. We trekked 16 kilometers to the village to understand what problems the people are facing. While interacting with the villagers, they shared their grievances, drinking water supply issues, bad roads, a broken bamboo bridge, and other concerns,” said DC Mishra.
