Highlighting the revenue potential of the concert industry, Sarma noted, “Many concerts are going on in our neighbouring state, Meghalaya.
In a significant move to boost the state’s entertainment and tourism sectors, the Assam Cabinet has approved the much-anticipated Concert Economy Policy. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced during a press conference held in Dergaon, outlining the government’s vision to transform Assam into a key destination for large-scale music events.
Highlighting the revenue potential of the concert industry, Sarma noted, “Many concerts are going on in our neighbouring state, Meghalaya. Of late, there was a concert of Coldplay in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. The state of Gujarat generated revenue of Rs 600 crore from just one concert.”
As part of this new policy, Assam will host a mega concert in Guwahati this December, Grammy-nominated American artist Post Malone is scheduled to perform in Guwahati on December 8 aimed at putting the state firmly on the national and international music circuit.
“In December, there will be a mega concert in Guwahati, which will have healthy competition with our neighbouring state Meghalaya,” Sarma said.
The policy also includes plans to develop Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat as prime concert destinations. The government will actively support companies to organise events in these cities by enhancing concert infrastructure.
This move is expected to boost Assam’s cultural identity while generating employment and driving growth in tourism and local businesses.

It is worth mentioning that Guwahati has already hosted performances by renowned Indian artists such as A.R. Rahman, Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Lucky Ali, Darshan Raval, and B Praak.

Norwegian DJ and music producer Alan Walker has also performed in the city, with such events contributing significantly to the state’s economy and tourism growth.
