8 Arrested in Assam for Supporting Pahalgam Terror Attack: Assam CM

The Assam government continues to monitor and take firm action against activities that pose a threat to national integrity and unity

As many as 8 persons have been arrested from across Assam for supporting the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which left 28 people dead.

The arrested individuals have been identified as-

1.Jabir Hussain of Hailakandi

2.A.K. Bahauddin and Javed Mazumder of Silchar

3.Mahahar Mia alias Mujihirul Islam of Morigaon

4.AIUDF MLA from Dhing constituency, Aminul Islam from Nagaon

5.Sahil Ali of Sivasagar district.

6. Jarif Ali also known as Sharif Sing from Barpeta.

7.Anil Bania, District Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad, from Biswanath.

The accused are charged with promoting the cause of Pakistan through their social media posts.

Sharing the list of the arrested individuals and stating that further arrests are underway as part of the ongoing crackdown Chief Minister Himanta Biswa in his X post wrote, “Assam will not tolerate any individual who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam. So far, the following individuals have been arrested by @assampolice for directly or indirectly promoting the cause of Pakistan in Social media •Hailakandi – Md. Jabir Hussain •Silchar – Md. A.K. Bahauddin, Md. Javed Mazumder •Morigaon – Md. Mahahar Mia @ Md. Mujihirul Islam •Nagaon – Md. Aminul Islam •Sivasagar – Md. Sahil Ali Further arrests are underway as part of our ongoing crackdown.”

In another post, the Chief Minister shared a strong message against extremism.

CM Sarma said, “A terrorist is a terrorist, no matter what he says, But when his faith becomes his gun and hate becomes his way, When he believes his religion tells him who to fight, He turns his cruelty into a cause — and calls it faith and right.”

Earlier, yesterday, the Chief Minister has issued a stern warning to elements acting against national interest and said, “I want to warn everyone and all anti-India forces, any attempt to support Pakistan, whether directly or indirectly, from Assam will not be tolerated. I have directed Assam Police to take stringent action against such acts.”
