3 Including 2 School Children Dead, Several Missing After Boat Capsizes in Brahmaputra Near Peradhora in Nalbari, Assam

The incident occurred around 7:15 am when the boat, reportedly aged and in poor condition, broke into two halves mid-river due to a suspected technical failure.

In a tragic incident early this morning, three persons including two school students drowned after a country boat carrying around 60 passengers capsized in the Brahmaputra River near Peradhora in Barkhetri, Nalbari district of Assam.

The incident occurred around 7:15 am when the boat, reportedly aged and in poor condition, broke into two halves mid-river due to a suspected technical failure.

The country boat, which lacked basic safety measures such as life jackets, was en route from Larkuchi to Peradhora Ghat in Mukalmua when the mishap took place.

The deceased have been identified as Goful Ali (50), Aryan Ali (8), a class 3 student, and Mazidul Islam (15), a class 9 student of Rampur Janata School.

Three more passengers, all believed to be students remain missing.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation to trace those still unaccounted for.
Further updates are awaited as rescue efforts continue.
