OIL could bring the situation fully under control and cap the shut-in well on Sunday afternoon, 4th day of the high pressure spillage

In a big breakthrough, the Assam Police has arrested four suspects in connection with the high pressure spillage of fluids from the shut-in well at Dirial in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
The suspects have been identified as Mithu Naik, Sanjeeb Munda, Sanjit Munda and Saiful Ali.
It may be mentioned that the situation (high pressure spillage) was a fallout of miscreants completely cutting off and stealing the entire X-Mass tree above the adapter of the well. In this regard, OIL had lodged an FIR with the local Police and informed the District Administration Authority.
After untiring efforts, Oil India Limited (OIL) could finally succeed in capping the high pressure spillage of fluids from the shut-in well on Sunday afternoon, the 4th day of the incident.

The spillage had triggered fear among the locals but OIL had acted promptly assuring people that there was no gas leak and they were safe.

The memories of the major gas leak in OIL’s Well No 5 in Baghjan oil field in Tinsukia in May 2020 resulting in a fire killing 3 and displacing hundreds is still fresh in people’s memories.
