Assam Deluge: CM assigns 9 cabinet ministers for 15 flood affected districts, Ministers to be stationed in these districts

The Cabinet ministers will monitor relief, rescue operations round the clock in the 15 worst hit districts
Amid the grim flood situation in Assam that has killed at least 8 people in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 46 since May, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday assigned 15 worst flood-hit districts of the state to nine of his Cabinet ministers for round the clock monitoring of the flood situation and ensure prompt rescue, relief and rehabilitation work in these districts.
Dibrugarh and Tinsukia have been assigned to Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. Minister for Revenue & Disaster Management, Jogen Mohan will be taking care of Charaideo, Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora will be taking care of Sibsagar and Jorhat districts.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has been given the responsibility of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur. Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika has been given the three districts of Biswanath, Sonitpur and Darrang.
Golaghat is being taken care of by state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog. The districts of Nagaon and Morigaon will be under the care of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.
Minister for Employment and Tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah has been given the responsibility of Majuli. Power Minister Nandita Garlosa will be taking care of Udalguri.
The ministers will be stationed in these districts to overlook the flood relief work. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Taking to X, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “The entire State Govt stands with the people of Assam in this hour of crisis. To ensure proper supervision, I have requested Cabinet Ministers to be stationed in various districts for the next three days. Myself and a team of Ministers will also visit Barak Valley for 3-4 days soon.”
As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin of July 3, eight people, including a woman in Sonitpur district and a child in Darrang district, drowned during the past 24 hours while three others were reported missing.
At least 16.25 lakh people have been affected across 29 flood-hit districts with 25,744 people shifted to 181 relief camps, the bulletin said.
So far, 46 people have died in the two waves of flood since the last week of May. The first wave of floods in May was not as devastating as the second that started on June 16, ASDMA officials said.
