Losar celebrations begin in Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal

This year, the celebration marks the Wood Dragon Year 2151

Losar celebrations have begun in Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh from today. Losar, is a combination of two words, Lo meaning year and Sar meaning new. The festival is the New Year celebration of Himalayan Buddhists including those from Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.

This year, the celebration marks the Wood Dragon Year 2151.

On this auspicious occasion of Losar, people visited Gaden Namgyal Lhatse, the Tawang monastery where Sheling Rinpoche, Abbot of the monastery initiated special prayers. Hundreds of people participated in the occassion to seek blessings.

On the first day, a special ritual is observed to honour the supreme deity of the monastery Palden Lhamo.

In Bomdila, hundreds thronged Thuchog Gatsel Ling Monastery, to seek the blessings of His Eminence, the 12th Guru Tulki Rinpoche, people offered butter lamps with prayers for well-being, peace and prosperity.

People also took part in archery competitions during the celebrations which will go on for 15 days.
