The AAPSU citing reliable sources including Matey's family, said that the ex-Congress MLA received threats from insurgent groups.
Was former Arunachal Congress MLA Yumsen Matey in the hitlist of underground groups? Although probe is underway to ascertain the truth behind the ex-MLA’s killing, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today claimed that the former Congress MLA from Khonsa (West), had received warnings from rebel groups asking him not to contest in the 2024 assembly elections.
AAPSU general secretary Ritum Tali, briefing media said, “We have learnt from reliable sources, his (Yumsen Matey) family members that he had received warning asking him not to contest in the 2024 elections. He got the warning from some underground groups, some insurgent groups.”
The AAPSU leader called for speedy investigation into the matter and said that the government must do the needful regarding this.
Tali said, “Not only us, but entire Arunachal Pradesh have serious doubts about the incident, and this doubt should be cleared. The government must carry out a fast-track investigation and find out the reason behind the murder.”
In a rather significant statement, the AAPSU leader said that government employees working in the Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) region have to pay taxes to underground groups.
Ritum Tali stated, “One thing is true which we can say fullproof is that the government employees working there have to pay taxes (to underground groups). We have evidence regarding that.”
The AAPSU mentioning that Matey had received threats from underground groups underscores the gravity of the alarming situation despite tall claims made by the government regarding proper law and order.
Many see the killing as a politically motivated one, but the truth will be revealed after the probe.
Four years ago, Tirong Aboh who had succeeded Yumsen Matey, as the NPP MLA from the Khonsa (West) seat had to face a similar fate.
Just 2 days ahead of the announcement of assembly election results, Aboh, his son and 9 others were shot dead in the Bogapani area by militants on May 21, 2019.
In case of Matey, he was an ex-MLA and also an aspirant for the upcoming 2024 Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections from the Khonsa (West) assembly constituency. He was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday.
IGP (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa on Sunday had informed that the police is looking into every angle including the political one as reasons behind the crime.
