Donyi-Polo New Year Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Tuting, Showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s Rich Tribal Heritage

The vibrant village of Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh came alive with the celebration of the Donyi-Polo New Year, a festival marked by deep devotion and cultural pride.

Rooted in the ancient belief systems of the Tani and other indigenous tribes, the festival highlighted the harmonious relationship between humanity and nature, with the Sun (Donyi) and Moon (Polo) revered as supreme deities symbolizing universal balance and prosperity.

The event showcased the enduring connection between the past and present, as rituals and offerings were performed with deep reverence to honour ancestral spirits and the elements of nature rivers, mountains, and forests that are integral to the Donyi-Polo faith.

Guided by traditional priests known as Nyibu or Miri, prayers for happiness, peace, and prosperity resonated throughout the gathering.
